Vitamin D Test €65

Vitamin D Testing for Deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency can be a serious problem and does not have very obvious symptoms. It increases susceptibility to other more serious conditions. Maintaining Vitamin D levels protects the body from a wide range of diseases including viruses, cardiovascular disease and bone disease including osteoporosis. Depression and breast, prostate and colon cancer have also been linked to an increased risk of Vitamin D deficiency.

Cause of Vitamin D Deficiency

The long Irish winter and the lack of sunlight is perhaps the biggest cause of Vitamin D deficiency amongst people living in Ireland. That’s why we should be more concerned then most countries.

Which Foods Contain Vitamin D

Only a few foods naturally contain Vitamin D therefore adequate levels are dependent on exposure to sunlight. Fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are among the best sources.

The Test

All that is required is a small fingerprick sample of blood for the laboratory to measure your Vitamin D levels

Candida Albicans Test €90

Candida Albicans is a yeast-like fungus that is normally present on the skin and on mucous membranes such as the vagina, mouth, or rectum. An overgrowth of Candida in these areas is commonly referred to as thrush. It is also a normal inhabitant of the human gut, however, when a person has a microbial imbalance, Candida Albicans can change its form to become a pathogenic (injurious) invasive fungus.

The test is designed to detect elevated levels of IgM and IgG antibodies to Candida Albicans. Elevated IgM results indicate an early stage infection. Elevated IgG results indicate an actively ongoing infection or the occurrence of a past infection.

Presenting Symptoms Include:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Excessive flatulence
  • Bladder / kidney infections
  • Fungal infections of nail or skin
  • White coating on tongue
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Increased sensitivity to allergy and intolerance

What Causes Candida Albicans:

Factors which encourage Candida overgrowth include overuse of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, steroid drugs, consumption of high sugar or high yeast content drinks and continuous intake of poorly digested foods (food intolerance).

Why Test for Candida Albicans:

There is such a wide range of conditions associated with Candida overgrowth that accurate diagnosis of Candidiasis cannot be made on the basis of symptoms alone. The only way to diagnose Candida overgrowth is to carry out a specific test aimed at detecting the presence of the organism.

Blood Sample:

Only a few fingerprick drops are required to do the analysis. If you have already provided a blood sample for the food intolerance test, this Candida test can be processed from the blood sample you have already provided.

Coeliac Test €90

The one word which summarised coeliac disease is “depleted”. Most patients suffer years of chronic ill health before a diagnosis is made. In most cases the associated symptoms scream the loudest. Because the associated exhaustion, depression, thyroid disease etc, is so distressing, it receives all the attention and all of the treatment. Yet all the time the true cause goes undetected.

You should really suspect CD if despite all the best treatment, your condition fails to improve.  This is because the proper diagnosis has not been made. In truth, many thousands of people are but treating the associated symptoms.

Diagnosis:

Coeliac Testing is simple and involves screening a blood sample for tissue Transglutaminase antibodies. A positive result from this coeliac testing is compelling evidence of Coeliac Disease. A follow-up intestinal biopsy may be performed for final confirmation.

Blood Sample:

Only a few fingerprick drops are required to do the Coeliac Testing analysis. If you have already provided a blood sample for the food intolerance test, this coeliac test can be processed from the blood sample you have already provided.

Thyroid Autoantibody Test

Thyroid disease is typically a malfunction of the thyroid gland, where the immune system destroys or stimulates thyroid tissue. It is almost always caused by the autoimmune condition Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, in which the body’s immune system reacts against the thyroid gland gradually making it inactive and causing hypothyroidism, or by Graves Disease, where the production of thyroid hormone is stimulated causing hyperthyroidism.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

  • Rapid weight loss
  • Palpitations (rapid heartbeat)
  • Irritability and nervousness
  • Goitre (enlargement of the thyroid gland)
  • Eye staring or bulging of eyes in socket

Thyroid Antibody Test €90

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Cold and constipated
  • Depression and anxiety

The new thyroid autoantibody test is able to detect these antibodies sent out to attack the thyroid gland. Early detection of raised thyroid antibody levels can often precede the onset of symptoms by a year or more. The presence of these thyroid antibodies unequivocally confirms the diagnosis of thyroid disease.

Blood Sample:

Only a few fingerprick drops are required to do the analysis. If you have already provided a blood sample for the food intolerance test, this thyroid autoantibody test can be processed from the blood sample you have already provided.
